Highest Motorable pass of Shimla District
Chanshal Pass is around 155 Kms. from Shimla the Capital of Himachal Pradesh State, The main stations through which the road leads are Theog, Hatkoti and Rohru. The main adventurous road starts from Chirgaon (a small town in Rohru and on the way to Chanshal) which is around 35Kms. The travel on this road is quite thrilling, the road is full of curves and you will witness a new beatuiful scene after each curve. In the beginning the road goes between pine forest, there after you will see plants of purple rhodendrone and other beatiful flowers. On the top or near to top you will see beautiful lush green mountains with plenty of snow on shadow areas. The pass is full of green grass with plenty of mountain flowers all around. At Chanshal Pass, the Pass is surrounded by beautiful high mountains full of snow. Local peoples are singing and dancing and enjoying all over. Its on of the best Passes of Himachal Pradesh.
The Best time to visit is morning time, as by noon the pass get surrounded by mountains and sometime rain may ruin your trip. So if possible leave for the Pass early from where you are staying. So far there ar no staying arrangements at the pass. So you have to return by evening from there, on can stay there for night in their own tents but bot recomended as the winds are quite chilling here and that blows at high speed too
The Chanshal Pass, or Chanshal Valley, links Dodra Kwar and Rohru in the Shimla district of the Indian state of Himachal Pradesh. The pass sits atop Chanshal Peak, which at 4,520 metres is the highest peak in the Shimla district. The pass remains open from May to October and is covered with snow for the rest of the year.
The Chanshal Pass is a 180 kilometres (110 mi) road from Shimla, accessible from May to October. Chanshal is a mountain range that cuts the Dodra Kawar Valley from the Rohru area. Its peaks reach 17,000 feet (5,200 m) and can be accessed from Chanshal Pass.
